FCC honors Apple with an award for iOS 14 accessibility features
The FCC singled out four particular accessibility features added or developed in iOS 14:
- People Detection in the Magnifier app
- Group FaceTime recognizes a sign language participant and makes their video more prominent
- Sound Recognition means iPhone can listen for specific sounds, like fire alarms, and alert the user
- VoiceOver Recognition: provides "substantive description" for websites and apps
Advice for the Aspiring Accessibility Tester / Manager
According to the author, accessibility is not taught well in college, so it is something that is largely expected that will be picked up through self-education and experience. A strong background in programming, software testing, or program management certainly helps with the transition.
